After trying out all the top of the league Twitter clients I have found one to be head and shoulders above the rest. The Best Twitter client available bar none, IMHO, is the incredible Hootsuite.

The feature list and functionality is almost endless and continually improving. Plus the support on Twitter is fantastic! Listen I have spent plenty of time with other good Twitter clients and Twitter apps like TweetDeck and Seesmic, to name but two of the best alternatives but for me, nothing compares to the all round ability of Hootsuite.

In this ongoing series of tutorials I will share with you exactly how I use the power of Hootsuite to complete tasks on Twitter from filtering noise from your Twitter stream, to scheduling updates, to auto tweeting your blog posts and much much more!

Hootsuite is a web based app so it runs in your browser rather than on your desktop sucking memory like some Adobe Air based clients.Being a web app also means no downloads and the crucial ability to access your account from any internet connected computer.

One of the key features of hootsuite is it’s ability to hook up to multiple Twitter accounts and, various other social sites including Facebook and LinkedIn. Thats right, no need to go tweet on Twitter, then post a Facebook status before heading to Linked in to update your profile there aswell. Talk about a time saver, just update from Hootsuite and choose which one, two, three or all of your social places across the web your update posts to.

Below is Hootsuite’s own introduction to their Twitter app. Check it out and stay tuned for the awesome tutorials to follow…

The Twitter universe has exploded in recent years largely due to the wonderful applications that have been developed to improve the Twitter experience. These same developers need money to continue to have the time to create their applications and make the user experience even better. This is where FeaturedUsers.com comes into play for developers and at the same time makes it easier for you to get more followers on Twitter.

You can buy impressions on FeaturedUsers.com and have your Twitter profile shown across the featured users network of aps and websites. This will create more opportunities for your Twitter profile to be found and give you more of an opportunity to grow a following. When you pay for these impressions you are providing funding to the people who work to make Twitter better and more user friendly.

If your like me you love stats, especially when the stats show how much value you are getting from a purchase. FeaturedUsers has this covered too providing graphs and figures to show the number of impressions your ad has had, number of click throughs and compares them against your increasing number of followers.

By purchasing FeaturedUsers impressions you should grow your followers dramatically and as if gaining a larger audience of followers was not enough of an incentive, you also have the knowledge you are actively helping the Twitter eco-system.

Remember: New followers gained from the FeaturedUsers network are people that have actually chosen to follow you by your profile that interested them, as oppose to following and un-following tactics and software which provide followers that have only followed you because you followed them.

Unlike some advertising programs FeaturedUsers does a great job of getting you set up real easy. Just sign in with your Twitter name and your Twitter bio will be automatically displayed on your profile ad that is displayed across the network of apps and sites.

Go check it out, it is free to sign up and packs of ad impressions are quite reasonable. Oh, and pretty soon you could be seeing your profile here on THT as I have also joined the FeaturedUsers network.

What do you think to this post? As always I’d love to get your feedback so tweet me @Twtr_Gator or leave a comment below

*Note: The links in this post do NOT earn me any payable monies but do earn me free profile ad impressions (as I use this service myself) and only if you actually order a pack of impressions on the network.

Twitter has become one of the most, if not the most, common ways for people to keep in touch and share information. Just by making your usual tweets you can keep friends and family informed of your life and potential job providers aware of your situation. I know this may be a new concept for some, but you would be well informed to learn how to use Twitter for finding a job.

But, what do you do if you do not have a massively extended network of friends on Twitter?

Use an app like TwitJobSearch.

This will help you keep your job search information straight, find jobs openings posted on Twitter and actually apply for them directly! This handy little program will help you divide information into categories and save the jobs you are interested in.

Just search for a job title you are interested in and you will get a list of relevent openings that TwitJobSearch has pulled from Twitter. Now for the clever bit…

For each job listing you can select several options.

View Job: Click this to be taken directly to the site that tweeted the job opening to find out more details.

Save: Adds any job to to your profile to come back to later.

I Can Do That: One easy click lets you apply for the job and alerts the potential employer of your interest.

Skype Me: Like it suggests, sends an alert to the employer advertising the job that you would like them to contact you via Skype about this position.

To make the most of these excellent features you will need to log in with Twitter connect. Once you do you will automatically have an account on TwitJobSearch created to which you can add an extended profile and key set of skills, your prefered contact details and link to your LinkedIn profile or any other online CV or Blog.

Savvy employers are already using Twitter to check out canidates for new jobs, but now you the potential employee can also how to use Twitter for finding a job.

This is the way of the future of the internet, job posters are looking to post their opportunities in the most popular places where they can get the best candidates. Twitter is definitely at the top of the game right now and you should be able to find anything you need from this job search engine.

I really hope this helps you if you are looking for a job right now. Maybe someone in your Twitter following is looking for a job so be sure to share this with the retweet button at the top of the post.

Twitter has become so globally recognized for connecting people all over the world, many people do not realize the impact Twitter has had on local communities. If you know where and how to look, Twitter can give you the ability to find fantastic people in your local area, town or city.

In no particular order, here are my top 5 ways to find Twitter users in your town.

1. Twellowhood: The local search function of Twellow.com, think of this as the phone book, or yellow pages for Twitter. You can search on a local level with Twellowhood very easily by way of an excellent clickable map. Use Twellowhood and you will find great tweeps in your city or town but you can also register your Twitter account on Twellowhood to add an extended bio and make your Twitter profile more findable for other users. (Business tweeps, remember to include your keywords in your bio!)

Part of marketing is being able to find out what is working and what isn’t so you can develop a better, more efficient and successful plan. Gaining and losing followers on Twitter is very much the same. The diagnosis to your issues will be easy once you see the results, do more of what is working and less of what isn’t. If you use services like Qwitter and Chirpstats you can find out just which messages are working and which are not!

Chirpstats (formally Twitterless) was the first service to come along and offer you the ability to explore who was quitting your tweets and why. This service offers to tell you how many people have quit following your tweets, who they are and maps out a graph of when you lost followers. Whilst not providing the most detailed follower insights available Chirpstats is free, just follow @chirpstats on Twitter.

Qwitter has come along and taken over top billing in this category by being able to give you the account names of the people who have quit following and the last tweet you sent before they stopped following you. This is a once-a-day email update that will tell you who has quit and the premium service also includes: after what messages the unfollow occurred, your own account page and crucially for me multiple Twitter name support. This service also offers to help you identify spammers and spam bots that may be harming your Twitter account.

I personally use Quitter and recommend you do too if you are wanting to build a strong Twitter following. At just $4.99 a year this is a service that really is great value providing the best follower insights available right now.

Use Quitter to discover exactly which tweets turn off your followers you will soon find yourself providing tweets that to your followers are far more interesting. This will in turn naturally lead to you getting more Twitter followers and just as importantly, more engaged followers!

Just before you head off to check out these services for yourself please drop me a note in the comments below. What did you think to this post? Do you know of any alternatives for keeping check on who unfollowed and why you are losing followers?

Here is why you should help your blog readers share your posts on Twitter and how to quickly and easily get this essential in place on your wordpress blog with a retweet button.

Updating your blog is very important to the success of your website as it provides new information and refreshes the search engine results for your page. As important as it is to update your page it is equally or more important to update the links coming back to your page. So as well as the viral effect of Twitter in this respect it is important to know how to add a retweet button to your WordPress blog.

Using software found easily on the internet from various URL shortening services will make it possible for your readers to tweet new blog posts. Every time you make a new post to your blog your readers will be able to retweet it to the masses around the world.

Adding new technology to WordPress is very easy and is actually part of the appeal of using the service in the first place. This addition will help your WordPress blog take off and you could be shooting up the search engines in no time. All because of a little Twitter how to know how.

As you can see I use Tweetmeme here on the Twitter How To blog, not only do I highly recommend you do the same but this is exactly how you can too!

Firstly Tweetmeme for wordpress is installed just like any other WordPress plugin, I am definately no coder so rely on awesome plugins like this. Once you have installed and activated the plugin you will see a Tweetmeme tab on your WordPress dashboard.

Now click on the Tweetmeme settings to customise your own tweetmeme button. From here you can choose:

When and where your button will appear

The actual style of the button

Your choice of URL shortner

Hashtag from post tags or a default or none at all ( Hint: hashtags are great for visability on Twitter! )

Plus a few more…

Once you hit the save button your done. Easy right? So no excuses!

If you haven’t already, go right now and get Tweetmeme set up on your WordPress blog to include a retweet button and help your readers spread your posts across Twitter.

Do you use Tweetmeme? Let us know what you think in the comments below. Maybe you use an alternative, then let us know. What did you think to this post? I am always looking for feedback so if you think I failed tell me, but if you think this post was great my ego could do with your comments also

P.S. If you did like this post be sure to click the Tweetmeme button at the top of the post. Thanks!

Since the advent of the internet there have been countless revelations about the best ways to get people to your website and stay there. Everyone has jumped on board with the thought that having a poll on their website creates both interest and a rooting pride. If you can learn how to easily run a poll on Twitter using Twtpoll you can encourage many followers to your Twitter account and find out exactly what your followers thoughts and opinions are, giving you a great insight into what tweets, blog posts or product developments you should be actioning to make your public audience and customers happy.

Setting up your poll is as easy as going to the main page for Twtpoll, selecting the option of creating a poll. Next you must put in your Twitter name and decide on the type of the poll you want to have. You have the option to create a multiple choice poll, essay poll and several other options.

All you must do at this point is type in the question in one box and then the answers in another box. You select a few options like the type of answers and how long to keep your poll live. Then you have your poll all ready to go so just click on the link to create your poll.

This is when you will also be able to share your poll on various social networks including Twitter. Above the share options you will also see the tab to embed your new poll on your own website or blog just like I have in the sidebar on this site (Go ahead and answer my poll if you want to see Twtpoll in action). Anybody that answers your poll will also be shown the same share options helping your poll go viral across Twitter or any of the other social networks.

A couple of the advanced features I really like about Twtpoll are, you can brand your polls with your own branding which is obviously great for businesses. Also you can now set up a poll to get feedback on a video or image!

If you can learn how to easily run a poll on Twitter using Twtpoll you will never look back!

Have you tried Twtpoll? Let us know how you used it and how effective your poll was in the comments below.

Granted, if someone was to ask you before the advent of Twitter, “What is Follow Friday?” you may have responded with the common sense logic of it being something related to stalking. However, in the Twitter era this simply has to do with another tradition that has emerged from the social media age. Follow Friday on Twitter is all about letting people know who you found interesting today or this week.

So let us say for one minute that you are a big fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA and you like to follow Kevin Durant @KDthunderup . You have been following for a week or two and have really enjoyed the things that he shares on his Twitter account. You may tell all of your followers on a Friday that you enjoyed Kevin Durant’s tweets for the last week and recommend your followers to follow him.

To tweet your Follow Friday suggestions simply add the Hashtag #followfriday to your tweet.

Top Tip: If you really want to suggest five people in your Follow Friday avoid putting them all in one tweet! Instead only put one name in one tweet along with the reason why you are recommending them, and don’t forget the #followfriday hashtag.

Follow Friday is all about giving props to the people that you follow so that other people may follow as well. You can participate at any time on any Friday in the Follow Friday festivities on your Twitter account. Who knows, maybe someday you will be the person that is being mentioned for Follow Friday.

If you found this post helpful you could let your Twitterfriends know with a Follow Friday tweet for @Twtr_Gator

I am always happy to get feedback and suggestions for this site, so please do leave me any feedback on this post in the comments below or on twitter @Twtr_Gator

According to reports today, it would appear there is a clear and obvious way for any third party Twitter app you have allowed to tweet on your account can actually change your profile information.

Your name, location and URL could be changed by an app using three simple ‘command tweets’. I am sure Twitter will tidy this up pretty quickly but till then you really should go check the apps that have this access to your account.

From your Twitter home page:

Go to “Settings” tab.

Click on “Connections”.

Displayed will be all the third party Twitter apps with access to your account, when you approved them and the type of access each app has (ie: read only, read and write).

If there any apps you are not familiar with or no longer use you can remove your permission for an app to have access to your account by clicking the “Revoke Access” link.

Any kind of social phenomenon, whether it be a movie, website or miniseries will create its own world, full of its own language and quirks. Twitter has become just this kind of program with a language all its own that has taken over the internet. One of these new developments is the use of the #hashtag, but what is a #hashtag?

The #hashtag was created by the users of Twitter without it being an actual creation by the owners and developers of Twitter. Users started placing the # before the word or phrase to get a special tag placed on the word or phrase. These #hashtags will make your words or phrases stand out just like tags on any other type of website, and other users reading your tweet will know who, why or what you are tweetin’ about.

So lets say that you want to start a conversation or discussion about the World Series when Major League Baseball slows down. All you have to do is mark it as the following, #worldseries and you will likely get a lot of people responding to your request for conversation because, (a) your tweet will be seen when ever someone searches Twitter for “world series” tweets. (b) Your followers who see the tweet will imediately know what you are talking about and can easily reply. Now you know how to get a #hashtag you need to use it frequently to help build your Twitter following.

Have you started any #hashtags on Twitter? I would love for you to let us know what they are in the comments below.
